Model One Mouthpiece

Our first foray into one-piece mouthpieces.  Based on our battle-tested Model CV paired with our Rim R, we added size-specific optimizations a step beyond what we can offer on our two-piece mouthpieces.  These are some of the most highly optimized mouthpieces ever made - even the cup geometry varies slightly between sizes to balance the feel and intonation of every one.

The design has been play tested on a huge array of horns, from the original Geyers, ultra-boutiques like Hill and Berg, all the way to today's Conns, Holtons and Yamahas.  And it's been tested in an equally wide array of settings; from community musicians to the Met Opera.

The sound has a dense, stable core and produces a large, controlled color change as the dynamic increases.  Articulations are malleable; from the gentlest sneaks to strong pings at any dynamic.  And there's plenty of top end power for Mahler and Shostakovich available too.

The rim is based on our popular Rim R - not too thin, not too thick and with a bite that's "just right".  It gets out of the way and lets you focus on the music.  Unlike some other designs the rim stays the same width throughout the range so they all have the same, familiar feel even if you decide to change sizes later.

Manufacturing a mouthpiece like this often comes with compromises.  When we're doing our boutique two-piece mouthpieces we use CNC controlled "single point" machining and each cup has a unique, computer-optimized back bore.  When you're making a lot of them though, this is a time-consuming process.

To make these at scale without sacrificing on our design principals we invested in custom-made, CNC machined back-bore reams to translate our complex back-bore geometries into a single cutting operation.

We are thrilled to be able to offer these with zero compromise in our design vision and still 100% made in USA.
